The museum workshops
During the visit, children also take an active part when they use different objects from the museum collections and therefore they apply different artistic techniques. They paint the museum portrait and postcard, they make keys and signboards of a guild, they pour into the lockets with the motif of the Gothic glazed tile, they model the prehistoric necklace, they draw up their own medieval horoscope, they paint the grandmothers’ and grandfather’s Sunday Best clothes, they make a paper castle and a painted chest.

The heritage of the traditional trades is brought closer to them as they learn from experience. They prove their skills in weaving with a weaver’s shingle, making paper flowers and in baking honey pastries called ‘Loški kruhek’.

Paper flowers
The young visitors are shown the collection of artificial flowers within the ethnological collection. They can prove their skills by engaging in this activity, once a very widespread cottage industry in Loka territory.

Weaving with the weaver’s shingle
The children are shown the linen trade collection and they also weave with the weaver’s shingle which was used in the past for weaving ribbons.

‘Loški kruhek’
After a visit to the small bread collection, the young visitors make the honey bread called ‘škofjeloški kruhek’ together with a master’s assistant..

Keys
The children are shown the architecture collection within the ethnological collection, where masters’ products can be seen. They also make their own paper keys.

Signboards of a Guild
On the model of the signboards which can be seen in the collection of the guilds, the children choose their own tradesman’s symbol which they make from paper.

Lockets with the Motif of the Gothic Glazed Tile
After the children are shown the historical collection, they pour into the lockets with the motif of the gothic tile using molds.

Pre-historic Necklace
After the children visit the archaeology collection, they make their own necklace from the model of a necklace from the ‘Kevderc’ cave in Lubnik, originating back to the Copper Era.

Calligraphic Workshop
In the culturalhistory collection the children get to know the ‘‘Škofja Loka Manuscript’, originating from the year 1466 and which contains the oldest naming of the months in the Slovenian language and calligraphy – the art of writing. On a model of this manuscript the children draw up their own mediaeval horoscope.

Museum Portrait, Museum Postcard
The children choose a portrait from the historical collection with which they identify.  They draw and paint it and then they cut out a hole for the face.

Grandmothers’ and Grandfathers’ Sunday Best Clothes
In the ethnological collections the children take a look at the national costumes and Sunday best clothes and they become acquainted with the trades related to the clothing culture (the linen trade, painting, the hat trade, the bobbin-work). With the help of pattern books they paint and cut out the grandmothers’ and grandfather’s Sunday best clothes.

Painted Chests
After a visit to the ethnological collection, where painted rustic and middle-class chests can be seen, the children put together and paint models of these chests.

Let’s Build a Castle
