The medieval event Historial Škofja Loka reveals the material and cultural heritage of Škofja Loka and presents the tradition of various guilds, on the basis of which various activities of domestic and artistic crafts still operate today.

The Škofja Loka Museu participates in this year's Historial with the following workshops:

Medieval shield

"Trg pod gradom" Square, 10.00 am to 6.00 pm

In the workshop, we will use corrugated cardboard, colorful colored sheets and other materials to make medieval shields, and depict our imaginary coats of arms on them. We will be inspired by museum stories and the legend of the Bishop's coat of arms. With shields, children of all ages will be able to enter the medieval Škofja Loka.

From Grain to Bread, Bread Baking Workshop

Škopar House, at 4.00 pm

The master baker will demonstrate the process of kneading bread, and then we will shape our own piece of dough and bake it in the bread oven of Škopar's house. In the meantime, the guide will introduce us to the symbolism, customs and folk knowledge associated with bread. While our bread is being baked, we will take a look at the mill in the open-air museum in the castle garden and learn about the old procedures of how to get from grain to flour and porridge in the mill. In the company of the guide, we will also visit ethnological museum collections and get to know the food and living culture of small farmers from the wider Loka area in the period from the 16th to the end of the 19th century.
