At the lecture, we will get to know Ivan Tavčar as a politician and mayor of the city of Ljubljana during the turbulent years of the First World War. The writer, lawyer and politician, born in Poljane near Škofja Loka, rose to the top of the leadership of the capital of Carniola with his ability, commitment and work. He was elected mayor of Ljubljana on December 18, 1911, and solemnly appointed on January 20, 1912. During the First World War, he showed exceptional commitment to the fact that the city could live normally despite the war. Thus, during a general shortage, he helped to bring five wagons of wheat flour and two wagons of semolina to Ljubljana from Hungary, he arranged matters in education and had a lot of merit in reviving the work of the Slovenska Matica. His wife Franja Tavčar was also extremely active in the humanitarian field as a national lady during the war.
