Clay Through Place and Time

Catalogue of Slovene Clays and Škofja Loka Clayware from Medieval and Modern Periods

17. 6. 2020 @ 18:00

The exhibition presents the project Catalogue of Slovene Clays by the potter and industrial designer Urban Magušar, thus joining a number of other Slovene museums and exhibitions that have previously hosted the project. At the Škofja Loka Museum, the project, which presents the great diversity of clays in Slovenia, the abundance of local clay deposits and their importance for the Slovene pottery tradition, has been expanded and features a selection of clay objects from the Middle Ages and the Modern Era. The objects, which allowed people to live an easier and better life, and were also beautiful to look at, were used by the inhabitants of Škofja Loka and the surrounding area in their day-to-day lives. The expanded exhibition project thus presents a close connection between the material, the clay shaping techniques and also the ornamental elements, as well as highlights the connection between these traditional starting points and contemporary trends.

The exhibition is part of the project focused on exploring the Slovene pottery tradition and a result of the collaboration between the author Urban Magušar, the Škofja Loka Museum and the Arts & Crafts Center of Škofja Loka, RAS, which prepared an online exhibition of Urban Magušar's ceramics in April 2020.
