The Grand textile installation Soil, Seed deals with the question of our relationship to the soil and the seeds. It reveals the meanings and symbolism of seeds, emphases the importance of the preservation of ecosystems, biodiversity … Just self-sufficiency movements and community practices that show an alternative to otherwise seemingly possible endless growth are awakening the authors answer these questions. In their own way through joint work, solution-seeking and creativity.
The four artists have paired their knowledge and expressiveness with the nobility of fertile soil and the above-ground world, which overgrows, protects and feeds on this very soil. Each of them used her distinctive technique – from weaving, felting, plant dyeing and botanical printing to quilting linen fabrics – and signature expressive style. Their joint work is enhanced with the artists’ individual works: Nina Vastl Štefe (The Black Seed), Anja Musek (Soil – Flax/Linen – Soil), Lili Panjtar (The New Life), Silva Horvat (The Corn Sun), which form a one-of-a-kind ecosystem.
