Tone Mlakar (1921–2020) was a versatile artist who worked in Škofja Loka and a wider surrounding area throughout his career until he retired. His photographic oeuvre is a one-of-a-kind chronicle of the town and its people, as well as the ever-changing urban and rural cultural landscape.

Art historian Nina Misson will talk about Mlakar's life and work with the photographer's son, artist Simon Mlakar. This will be followed by a screening of the documentary film The Charmed Life of Tone Mlakar (2017) directed by Marko Cvejić. In the film, we follow Mlakar's dramatic story through the eyes of the protagonist, set on the stage of 20th century events.

The event is part of the accompanying program of the exhibition Photo Loka: Creating Škofja Loka's Photographic History, which is on view in the Castle Gallery until 31 October 2021.
