Avgust Berthold (1880–1919) was only able to pursue photography for a relatively short time, yet he is nevertheless considered one of Slovenia’s most advanced professional photographers and a pioneer of artistic photography. He grew up in Puštal Castle close to Škofja Loka, so his artistic development was greatly influenced by the artists and cultural eminences he befriended there, including painters Ivan Grohar and Rihard Jakopič. Berthold's heir, architect Matej Vozlič, set up a working studio with his partner in Berthold's former photography studio in Ljubljana. He will be interviewed by the curator of the Photo Loka exhibition Miha Colner, an art historian and curator from the Božidar Jakac Gallery, who has been researching the field of photography for several years.

The event is part of the accompanying program of the exhibition Photo Loka: Creating Škofja Loka's Photographic History, which is on view in the Castle Gallery until 31 October 2021.
