Zgodboprejke (»Storyweavers«)

The wall installation Zgodboprejke ("Storyweavers") was created at a workshop of the Breja preja knitting community. During the spring months, a group of women who had moved to Škofja Loka from various parts of the world got to know different textile techniques and learned from each other. By using plant printing, embroidery, dyeing, and collage, they created textile images. The intimate stories of the women are carried in the created pieces. They convey the messages that art is intended for everyone and that art and community are capable of solving or at least significantly improving human lives. Zgodboprejke give voice to women who are often overlooked in society.

The Breja preja knitting community is dedicated to creating community and collaborative creations. This means that textile creation always takes place with a purpose. Their past projects include knitting campaigns such as crocheting pink tree wraps during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, creating a rainbow before the referendum on the Family Code, and embroidering multilingual graffiti to raise awareness that we live in a diverse local community.
