Dalea Kovačec: Why Can I Still Hear When I Cover My Eyes?

The works of the intermedia artist Dalea Kovačec often explore memory and related processes on both personal and social levels. Her exhibition Why Can I Still Hear When I Cover My Eyes? brings together two spatial installations, The Chorus of Conflicts (2023–2025) in the first gallery room and Reminiscences of Hiding II (2019–2025) in the second. The first installation gives visitors the opportunity to participate in a special karaoke variant, focusing their attention on the issue of interpersonal conflicts. By transforming the space through enlarged chairs and bed sheets, which feature drawings made by children, the second installation seeks to evoke childhood memories. With each new presentation of her projects, the artist envisions the involvement of the local community. The exhibition’s playful title puts viewers in a child’s perspective, while also emphasising the audio part of both installations.

Time Captured in the Drawings by Tomaž Kržišnik

The exhibition of drawings by the versatile artist Tomaž Kržišnik at the Ivan Grohar Gallery includes selected series from Krakow, Paris, Barcelona and New York City. Each of the series highlights Kržišnik’s diverse approaches to the medium of drawing. The exhibition features original drawings in various formats, Xerox copies (with drawing elements added by the artist) and drawings collected in a special album. Also on view is Kržišnik’s last series of drawings titled My Garden, created as part of the Kržišnik Gallery’s Dialogues project in 2022.

Marko Kociper: The Badger and the Rest of the World

Marko Kociper is one of Slovenia’s most prolific comic artists. In his comics, he reveals people’s foibles and various social anomalies without mincing words and with lots of humour, and his distinctive drawing and narrative style is similarly blunt and forthright. Eroticism and satire are the main common threads of his work, and he often draws comics based on literary works, such as stories by Vinko Möderndorfer, Miha Mazzini, Andrej Blatnik or other authors. In recent years, he has also devoted himself to drawing stories about Fran Milčinski’s Butalci, i.e. unintelligent residents of a small village called Butale. A very important part of his oeuvre are the comic strips about a badger, who is certainly considered Kociper’s most famous (and most determined and fearless) comic strip character.

Martin Ramoveš: The Cat's Head

The Ivan Grohar Gallery in Škofja Loka presents a solo exhibition by Martin Ramoveš, last year’s winner of the Ivan Grohar Creativity Scholarship. The cornerstone of Ramoveš’s creativity is poetry, which he translates into his own distinctive comic narrative and music. His comic albums are characterised by an expressive black-and-white style, which he uses to depict gloomy stories, paired with fiction and (un)popular references to the history of the Slovenian countryside. The exhibition titled The Cat’s Head features his latest comic works, based on stories by Janez Ramoveš, which, referring to various historical facts, testify to the tragic motives behind local smuggling and the emigration of the Slovenian people to the United States as the promised land.

Mito Gegič: You Are the Provider. With a Stolen Voice.

The exhibition at the Ivan Grohar Gallery features a selection of works from Mito Gegič’s series titled You Are the Provider. With a Stolen Voice., which also serves as the title of the exhibition. The exhibited works are formally related to his previous series, they are, however, different. A special feature of the presented artworks is that this particular time Gegič pairs the scenes with attributes of hunting (hunted deer displayed in a show-offy way), supervision (a hunting blind) and male toxicity (weapons) from the local environment with the theme of pandemic in a global context.

Vesna Bukovec: A different world is possible

Vesna Bukovec is a contemporary visual artist who uses a variety of artistic media, her most common mode of expression, however, are video and drawing. Her work critically responds to contemporary issues and comments on various socio-political situations we face on a daily basis, i.e. the all-encompassing neoliberal ideology, the current political climate in Slovenia and around the world, the role of women in contemporary society, refugee crises, the violation of human rights, the climate crisis etc. At the Ivan Grohar Gallery, she presents a selection of her characteristic drawings with texts that not only chronicle the turbulent events in society, but also convey clear and direct activist messages.
