Art historian Nina Misson will present the versatile photographer, lecturer and pedagogue Vlastja Simončič at Šubič House. She will focus in particular on the experimental side of his photography and his role as an educator and founder of the so-called Slovenian method of teaching photography without the use of a camera.

Impressionism in the Castle Garden

We will first look at the early works of Ivan Grohar, which are kept in the museum, as well as reproductions of his most famous works of art and works by his contemporaries, and thus get to know the wider period of Impressionism in Slovenia. Then we will go to the castle garden and create our own impessionist works of art!

You are invited to a guided tour of our beekeeping collection, where we will present the history of beekeeping and cultural heritage in connection with bees. You will get to know the bee family and beehives, their products and the role that honey bees play in pollinating plants. We will also take a walk along the educational trail.

You are invited to a guided tour of the art collection of France Mihelič in the medieval Kašča, where we'll get some inspiration for the graphic workshop in the museum courtyard. As true graphic artists, we will create a smaller edition of our own graphics and also learn to sign graphic sheets correctly!

The lecture will take us through the first mentions of lacemaking in Slovenia, the importance of institutions in Ljubljana that crucially influenced the development of bobbin lace in Slovenia, and the involvement of the Škofja Loka area in this as well as the inscription of Bobbin Lacemaking in Slovenia on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018.
