Natural History Collection

The Škofja Loka Museum's Natural History Collection, which is currently the largest faunal museum collection in the Gorenjska region, features fauna from the Škofja Loka area, presenting various members of fish, bird, reptile and mammal species.

The collection's beginnings date back to 1946, when the Škofja Loka Museum was housed at the Puštal Castle. At the time, the collection, which was donated to the museum by local hunters and collectors, consisted of prepared mammals, birds and insects.

For curious minds:

  • The wolf that is on view in the collection was shot dead on 22 February 1953 in Rastovke above Dražgoše.
